About me!
When I was 13 years old, I read a couple too many Joan Didion quotes on Tumblr, became obsessively enamored with Pitchfork and dreamed of being Tavi Gevinson. A decade later, these interests have substantiated the start of a (hopefully successful) journalism career.
I graduated from the University of Florida in May 2023 with a dual degree in journalism (with a specialization in narrative nonfiction and feature writing) and women & gender studies (with a concentration in theories & politics of sexuality). What I studied was a combination of my perfect beat — stories focusing on the way we talk about race, sex and gender in music and pop culture. Currently, I’m a graduate student at Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, where I am learning more about reporting in the arts and culture beat. Music has informed mine and so many other people’s marginalized identities; I hope to spend the rest of my life writing and reporting on the intersection between music and politics.
As an early career journalist, I’ve had to report on a wide variety of topics from Florida education politics to Asian American entertainment to New York City compost. My passion for and experience in writing well-researched, thoroughly reported stories on any topic in the mainstream political and cultural lexicon is what makes me excited to continue to pursue a career in journalism.
Feel free to connect with me if you have any advice about being a journalist and/or navigating your early 20s, or if you want to become friends so we can rant about both! <3
